The Secret To Willpower - Kellogg's Special K Cereal (#giveaway)

Trying to eat right and stay on track with a healthy lifestyle can be tough; when you are bombarded by sugary treats everywhere you turn (especially with Halloween fast approaching) it can be really difficult to turn your back.

Tasty Tuesday: Seasonal Cream Cheese Brownies

In my search for Halloween themed treats, I came across this great recipe for Scream Cheese Brownies (another recipe from The Girl Who Ate Everything).

I decided to make them, and while I was doing so realized that they could totally be changed up dependent on the season - red/green for Christmas; red or pink for Valentines Day;  purple, pink, yellow or green for Easter; red/white for Canada Day; red/white/blue for fourth of July....

Happy Halloween Nursey School Kiddo's!

Do You Steal From Your Kids?

Do you steal from your kids? I do. I steal their Halloween candy after they have gone to bed....yes, call me a horrible mother if you will, but there is no way I am letting them eat ALL the goodies they collect. I am saving their teeth and their health - I guess you can call me a good mom then!

Couponing and Price Matching

I haven't posted about coupons/price matching in a little while, and today was a GREAT shop so I decided to post about it.

It's Pumpkin Time

Every year at this time, we pick out pumpkins. We generally head to AbbyHill Farms. They are open 7 days a week and on the weekends (Saturday and Sunday) they have a petting zoo and pony rides.

How Do You Cook Your Bacon?

how to bake your baconI love bacon, but always hated cooking it.  Using a frying pan always resulted in me getting splashed with hot grease, so it wasn't something I looked forward to making.

Tasty Tuesday: Oreo Truffles REVAMPED!!

I love chocolate. I love sugar. Pretty much if it is sweet, I will love it.  One of my favorite things to make (and eat) are  Oreo Truffles; if you have had them before, you will know how delicious they are.  Such a rich, chocolatey treat that is super easy to make (and because they freeze well, easy to keep on hand)

Happy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving weekend here; our dinner is normally Sunday night (although Monday is the holiday) however Mr. J has swimming tonight, so my in laws held dinner last night.  Being sick, Mr. K and I had to miss it.  My favorite part of any holiday meal is always dessert - and I had to miss that too :(. No pumpkin pie for me.

My mom will hopefully save me a piece of her pie - our family dinner is tonight, so I am hoping that there will be some left and she will bring it home for me!

I hope you all have a wonderful time celebrating with your family/friends!

Is My Child A Bully?

I am quite confident saying that no, my children are not bullies.  Mr. J is a wonderful child, kind and easy going. He is quite sensitive, and doesn't like to see people upset. While we certainly have issues in terms of listening and behaviour, that is all saved for mom and dad.

Mr.K, well - he is Mr. K.  Also a wonderful child. He is quite the dramatic little boy, but when someone is sad/hurt/upset he doesn't like it (except for his brother of course).  While he can get physical, I am fairly sure that is an age/stage/lack of communication reaction and should get better in the near future.

Keeping Kids Entertained When Parents Are Sick

kids play when parents are sick
this is often my view from the couch while sick - kids that get into everything
Right now I am dealing with a head cold; you know the feeling - your head is full of congestion, throat is on fire and all you want to do is stay in bed and sleep it off? That's exactly what is going on right now.

However, I can't stay in bed and sleep it away - I have little people depending on me. Two little people. One of those is capable of feeding himself, and getting food for his brother - but that means raiding the cupboard filled with cookies and crackers - not the most nutritious options.

The Secret to Candy Crush

Secret to Candy Crush

The secret to avoiding the candy crush obsession? Don't start playing!

I made the mistake of playing in the spring - and it very quickly became addicting.  I did not fall into the trap of paying for boosters, lives or levels.  I refuse to pay money for a game I can play on my phone.

Tasty Tuesday - Home Made Granola Bars

easy, delicious granola bars

I am a fan of granola bars - quick and easy. I am not, however a fan of all the sugar in the store bought ones - even though they taste great and are easy to keep in the cupboard.  I much prefer home made items, because I control the exact ingredients and amounts.

Thanksgiving Craft Ideas

With Thanksgiving approaching (remember, I am Canadian - ours is in October!) I was on the lookout for some great Thanksgiving crafts to do with the boys.  Where did I search? Pinterest of course!

The Things Kids Say

halloween pictures
My dad died when I was a teenager. He had a heart attack.  Since he was gone long before my kids came along, they know of Papa Rick, but have never met him.  He is often talked about, they come to his grave with me and they know that he died "because his heart didn't work anymore".  We have always refrained from telling them someone died because they were old or sick - and try our hardest to tell them the truth.

Last week, Mr. K spent some time with my mom.  That night, when I was putting him to bed he was talking about Papa Rick, and how he was dead. We talked about how it made me sad, and he was sad too.  Then, he told me he had to go to the basement, to Daddy's workshop. He had to get a screw driver, and he was going to fix Papa Rick's heart so he wouldn't be dead anymore.

It was the most adorable thing - he was certain that daddy's screwdriver could fix it - because of course, if something breaks in the house the first thing hubby does is try and fix it.

What cute things have your kids said?

Family Movie Night - The Croods

#TheCroods movie review

We received a copy of The Croods on Blu-ray to review - when we saw the previews last winter at the movie theater, Mr. J expressed great interest in the movie. Unfortunately, we did not make it to the theater while it was being played, and had to wait until it was released for home viewing.

Crazy Fun with the Glow Crazy Doodle Dome

pop up tent glow in dark pen

What could be more fun than a tent for the kids to play in? A tent that comes with a glow in the dark pen! That's what the Glow Crazy Doodle Dome is!  A black pop up tent and on the inside is a special canvas where a specific pen (included) will create glow in the dark designs!

When the Glow Crazy Doodle Dome arrived, the boys were super ecstatic - they love to create forts and tents, and this was a pre-built one.

Glow Pen with Crazy Doodle Dome
inside the tent when the pen was turned on

The tent twists up nice and easy into a small carry bag (easy for me, the kids are not able to do it) - so you don't need to worry about it taking up space when it's not in use.

The tent is a great size for 1 child, but both my boys are able to fit in it without feeling too squished (they have each actually slept in it overnight - at separate times - it's that much fun!)

The Glow Crazy Doodle Dome is recommended for children 5 years and up; it can be found at London Drugs, Sears and Canadian Tire.  It retails for approximately $30.00 - definitely an idea to keep in mind for any upcoming birthdays or Christmas!

Star Wars Reads Day - October 5th 2013

Star Wars Reads Day is an international day celebrating literacy and all things Star Wars. For the first time, it is coming to Canada! Bookstores and Libraries across the Country will be taking part and featuring Star Wars books!

DK Canada is set to help you out - they have a HUGE section of Star Wars reads to choose from - here are the ones I chose for my son.

Here are the 3 titles I chose for my son (6 years old)

My favorite is What is a Wookiee? (who doesn't love Chewy?) Mr. J's favorite is Blast Off - it introduces the main characters in all 6 of the movies!

They have many different levels available, so suitable for any age Star Wars fan! Check out the titles available - for a limited time they have 30% off!
