Sensory Play Round Up

sensory fun, activity bins, sand, play doh, rice, hands on

Having 2 little boys, I can attest to how much they love sensory play.  Even as an adult, I find playing in sand or with play doh can have a calming effect.

A few years ago I made an indoor sand box for Mr. K, and thought I would put together a round up of sensory activities.  The posts are below, and will link you back to the blog they are originally from.

Penguins of Madagascar {review}

available for home viewing March 17th 2015
My boys and I had the opportunity to watch Penguins of Madagascar earlier this week.  The whole family loves the Madagascar series and characters, and we were super excited to see what the Penguins were up to.

I have to say though, I was kind of disappointed.  The movie didn't hold my interest at all - I just couldn't get into it.  Nothing specific that I can pinpoint as to why.  That being said, my boys absolutely LOVED it.  It held their attention the whole way through (it's not a super long movie, great length for kids) and they loved the fact that the movie was all about the Penguins.

Just goes to show how we all have different tastes.  Penguins of Madagascar gets a 3 out of 5 from us.

Have you seen it yet? Would you like to win a copy for your family? We are hosting a giveaway until March 30, 2015!

Sponsored Video - Knorr: Flavour Of Home

Have you ever tasted something that reminded you of home? I have. My mom has certain recipes that she has made all my life (or most of it, anyways) and when having it, it takes me back to my childhood. She also puts together packages of baked goods for some of my cousins that don’t live in the area anymore…to bring them a little taste of home.

Easter Morning - Have A Treat Without The Sweet!

Easter is almost upon us, and while that means that we enjoy a wonderful meal with our family to celebrate the day Jesus rose from dead, it also has the Easter Bunny coming to visit.  The bunny creates an indoor egg hunt for the kids, and also leaves a basket with a small bunny and a springtime toy (often it is bubbles or chalk) for each of them.

March 23 Monday Madness Giveaway Linky

March Break is over - ours started off great with our staycation at the Brookstreet hotel, we had a trip to the movie theater, and a pizza party as well....then Mr. K ended up sick and I didn't want to spread the germs, so we spent way too much time playing video games and watching movies.  Of course, by the end of the week and being stuck at home for 3+ days, we were all going a little stir crazy and the boys had me looking forward to school starting back up (this is rare - - I normally enjoy my time with them so much)

Tinker Bell And The Legend Of The NeverBeast {review}

Available on Blu ray/DVD combo pack March 3
Just released for home viewing is the latest film featuring Tinker Bell and the rest of the Pixie Hollow crew!

"Disneytoon Studios returns to Pixie Hollow with the heartwarming adventure “Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast.” The new story explores an ancient myth of a fabled creature whose distant roar sparks the curiosity of Tinker Bell’s good friend Fawn (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin), an animal fairy who’s not afraid to break the rules to help an animal in need. But this animal—massive and strange with glowing green eyes—is not really welcome in Pixie Hollow, and the scout fairies are determined to capture the mysterious beast before it destroys their home. Fawn, who sees a tender heart beneath his gruff exterior, must convince Tink (voice of Mae Whitman) and the girls to risk everything to rescue the NeverBeast before time runs out. Directed by Steve Loter (“Kim Possible”) and produced by Michael Wigert (“Secret of the Wings”), “Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast” roars to life in March 3, 2015."

My boys and I are all fans of Tinker Bell and were glad to receive a copy of Tinker Bell And The Legend Of The NeverBeast for review.

I find that all of the Tinker Bell movies are very family oriented, and that includes the length of the movie. They are long enough to tell the complete story, but short enough to keep even my super busy 4 year old's attention.

The boys were a little nervous when the NeverBeast first appeared on screen, but they soon warmed up and found him to be quite endearing.

If you have Pixie Hollow loving kids this is a great title to add to your collection!

Tales of Mommyhood was provided with a copy for review purposes.  As always, opinion stated belongs to ToM. Your opinion/experience may vary.

Let's Talk About Sex, Baby.....

(and yes, I am singing the Salt 'n' Pepa lyrics as I typed that title out)

I grew up in a house that was open about everything.  My parents answered any questions we asked as open and honestly as they could.  They didn't go into detail, but gave us the facts of what we needed to know, and took our lead as to how much to talk about.

Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb {review}

Available for home viewing March 10th
In our family, we really enjoy watching movies.  We try and have a movie night every weekend, and are always looking for great family friendly films to watch.  We all enjoy Night At The Museum, and our last family movie night was watching the 3rd (and final) in the series - NATM: Secret Of The Tomb.

This feature has Larry and a handful of the museum characters headed to London to try and understand why their magic is failing.  We still get to enjoy the characters we love (Teddy, Dexter, Sacagawea, Octavius and Jed) as well as being introduced to new characters throughout the film (even a small appearance of Hugh Jackman!)

Seeing Robin Williams (Teddy) in one of his last roles was a little bittersweet.  He was such a wonderful actor, and did a wonderful job with the character.  The whole family enjoyed NATM3; I am always worried when it comes to sequels and what not, but even being the 3rd in the series, it was just as entertaining for us as the original.

If you are on the hunt for a movie the whole family will love, this is one to add to your list! If you want a movie marathon, watch all 3!

Have you seen it? Would you like to win a copy? We are hosting a giveaway and one lucky ToM reader will win a copy!  Open to US/CAN and ends 3/15

ToM was provided with a copy for review purposes. All opinions are honest and belong to ToM. Your opinion/experience may vary

Favourite Television Shows

Growing up I loved all the "regular" shows - Who's The Boss. Growing Pains, Family Ties, Full House and most of the other TGIF shows.  I also loved Murder She Wrote (I watched it from the time I was little - my 4 yr old kindergarten teacher even told my mom it was inappropriate and I should not be allowed to watch it - that didn't go over well with my mother) - I continued to watch the series until it ended.

When I was in grade 8, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman started and I watched the premiere.  I really enjoyed it, and Saturday nights (when I wasn't babysitting) I would be watching it with my mom.  I didn't want to sit alone and watch it, so she would watch it with me.  My parents would even make plans AROUND my mom watching it with me and not go out until after 8pm if it was possible.

I didn't watch the entire series, after a few years I was either working on Saturday night or at the movies with my friends.

I recently saw an ad pop up online for the complete series and decided to purchase it.  For the last few weeks I have been watching it after the kids go to bed.  It really was a very well done show.

Do you have any shows from your childhood that you have rewatched? Do you still like them or do you question why you watched them?

National Peanut Butter Lovers Day

Apparently today is National Peanut Butter Lovers Day - I imagine this is an American thing, but it still made me think of my favourite peanut butter recipe - Kraft Peanut Butter Balls!
