Thanksgiving Craft Ideas

With Thanksgiving approaching (remember, I am Canadian - ours is in October!) I was on the lookout for some great Thanksgiving crafts to do with the boys.  Where did I search? Pinterest of course!

The Things Kids Say

halloween pictures
My dad died when I was a teenager. He had a heart attack.  Since he was gone long before my kids came along, they know of Papa Rick, but have never met him.  He is often talked about, they come to his grave with me and they know that he died "because his heart didn't work anymore".  We have always refrained from telling them someone died because they were old or sick - and try our hardest to tell them the truth.

Last week, Mr. K spent some time with my mom.  That night, when I was putting him to bed he was talking about Papa Rick, and how he was dead. We talked about how it made me sad, and he was sad too.  Then, he told me he had to go to the basement, to Daddy's workshop. He had to get a screw driver, and he was going to fix Papa Rick's heart so he wouldn't be dead anymore.

It was the most adorable thing - he was certain that daddy's screwdriver could fix it - because of course, if something breaks in the house the first thing hubby does is try and fix it.

What cute things have your kids said?

Family Movie Night - The Croods

#TheCroods movie review

We received a copy of The Croods on Blu-ray to review - when we saw the previews last winter at the movie theater, Mr. J expressed great interest in the movie. Unfortunately, we did not make it to the theater while it was being played, and had to wait until it was released for home viewing.

Crazy Fun with the Glow Crazy Doodle Dome

pop up tent glow in dark pen

What could be more fun than a tent for the kids to play in? A tent that comes with a glow in the dark pen! That's what the Glow Crazy Doodle Dome is!  A black pop up tent and on the inside is a special canvas where a specific pen (included) will create glow in the dark designs!

When the Glow Crazy Doodle Dome arrived, the boys were super ecstatic - they love to create forts and tents, and this was a pre-built one.

The tent twists up nice and easy into a small carry bag (easy for me, the kids are not able to do it) - so you don't need to worry about it taking up space when it's not in use.

The tent is a great size for 1 child, but both my boys are able to fit in it without feeling too squished (they have each actually slept in it overnight - at separate times - it's that much fun!)

The Glow Crazy Doodle Dome is recommended for children 5 years and up; it can be found at London Drugs, Sears and Canadian Tire.  It retails for approximately $30.00 - definitely an idea to keep in mind for any upcoming birthdays or Christmas!

Star Wars Reads Day - October 5th 2013

Star Wars Reads Day is an international day celebrating literacy and all things Star Wars. For the first time, it is coming to Canada! Bookstores and Libraries across the Country will be taking part and featuring Star Wars books!

DK Canada is set to help you out - they have a HUGE section of Star Wars reads to choose from - here are the ones I chose for my son.

Here are the 3 titles I chose for my son (6 years old)

My favorite is What is a Wookiee? (who doesn't love Chewy?) Mr. J's favorite is Blast Off - it introduces the main characters in all 6 of the movies!

They have many different levels available, so suitable for any age Star Wars fan! Check out the titles available - for a limited time they have 30% off!
