My Countdown To School Is Not What You Think

Most parents have a countdown to school going on, either on the calendar or in their head.  I have one too, but not for the same reasons.  My countdown is to prepare myself.

I am a stay at home mom, and the fact that my kids are going to be gone all day, 5 days a week is sad for me.  I love having them with me.  Sure, they drive me crazy lots of the time, and sometimes I wonder if I should go back to work, but for the most part, I love it.

I accept the fact that my boys are loud and dirty.  I accept the fact that they are little boys that find bodily functions hilarious* (and yes, I even laugh when they aim their "fart machines" ..aka bums, at each other) I embrace the noise and the dirt, and understand that one day it's not going to be loud or dirty.  The time will come when they aren't here to make the noise, or mess up my house.  I am quite sure, that when that day finally comes, I am going to miss all the chaos.

So while there are many parents counting down to when the kids are FINALLY back at school, that is not me.  I am counting down, only to prepare myself that the day is coming when they are both going to be out of the house.

I am counting down, to prepare myself for the tears that I know will come, and to give myself time to accept the fact that they are growing up.

I am one of those moms that looks forward to the last day of school every year and cannot wait to start the countdown to Christmas break!  So while my countdown is on, a new one will start on the first day of school so that I know how much time until they are out for Christmas....and then another will start for march break, and then again for end of school.

*while they do find these things funny, they are also very polite and don't act this way in front of others and will excuse themselves if it does occur**

  2. I enjoyed my children so much that I also found it hard to see them off to school. It is also sad to think how fast the time goes when you enjoy them so much.I find it touching that you enjoy them and all their little antics too.

  5. What a wonderful post to read. I see so many Mom's complain about their kids and school breaks all the time on facebook and all I can think is time will go so quickly, they will wish they had this time back. I always loved school breaks and like you felt bad when they were gone off to school. But it is okay for you to take some time for you while they are off at school and the school days will pass quickly. You enjoy your kids and cherish the time you spend with them, and that is a wonderful gift to you and them. Take care. I really loved to read this post.

  9. Awwww, it's all good Ashley!!! I love having them home with me and be able to be home with them (also work from home) but I also enjoy having my days to be able to work without interruption. So I am counting down cause I'm ready for some solo work days again ;)

  10. awww... you are so sweet! I hope that the year goes by quickly for you.
Interestingly, as a stay-at-home mom myself, I'm actually looking forward to when all of my kids will be at school full time. I can't wait to have some time to myself! But at the same time, I know that 2 years will go by so quickly, and I will miss having them at home. I may have to do lunch pick ups or something. Who knows... funny how that is. We always want what we can't have ;)

  11. I too will miss my girls. They have been such a great help with Bella when I needed them to watch her while I got some work done. As much as the noise and mess is more during the summer I miss it during the school year!
