The lilac thief strikes again - and a shout out to RCSS Kanata

A few weeks ago I wrote about Mr. K's lilac, how he picked it out, helped to plant it and then it was stolen. We took him to replace it the following weekend, and it happened AGAIN. Not only was our Lilac stolen a 2nd time, but we found out that a house on the street behind us had a tree stolen from their FRONT yard the same night.

My poor little Mr. K was absolutely heartbroken.  Hubby and I were not happy, and I was so pissed that I went to our local moms group on facebook to warn others.  Then something amazing happened.  A woman from the group told me she mentioned it to her husband.  He happens to be the district manager of RCSS (Real Canadian Super Store), and when he heard he called the manager of our local RCSS who said to have me contact him, and bring Mr. K in to pick out a lilac - on them.

I was so touched by the generosity that I started to cry when I read it.  It seems like such a little thing, but it really meant a lot to me. After having 2 tree's stolen, it was amazing that he would offer that. It really goes to show that their are kind people left in this world.

I went in to the Kanata RCSS and met with Jason, the manager.  He was so kind; he led me and the boys out to the garden center to pick out a lilac. Unfortunately, they were completely out and were not getting any more.  I figured that was it. But I was wrong. Because they weren't getting any more Lilacs, he told us to pick out any tree/bush that would work for the area.  I wasn't sure, so I spoke with hubby that night and figured it out.  Mr. K and I went back in a few days later and he picked out a Black Lace Elderberry.

When we got home, he was so excited that we had his tree and couldn't wait to plant it. It was raining, and hubby wasn't home so I had to convince him he needed to wait.

I would like to say a HUGE thank you to Jason at RCSS Kanata for helping to make a little boy VERY happy.  He has a huge smile anytime he walks past his tree - instead of the tears that came when he saw the empty hole.

  1. I just read your post and that makes me really sad that a person or people actually drive around and steal trees. What is the world coming to? I am so happy that there are some nice people still in the world and that your son is beaming with pride now :)

    2. I love that the manager was so awesome and did that for your little guy. I love when companies do stuff like that just because they think it's the right thing to do!!

  7. That is a really sweet story. And we don't have pretty flowers at my work complex because people kept coming and digging them up at night. AND they caught one lady digging up all the tulip bulbs-she was from the nice part of town driving an expensive car. Sheesh.
