I had forgotten the world of a toddler's tantrum.....oh, what fun.
The other day we were outside playing, but Kyle wouldn't keep his mitt's on. After about 10 tries, I finally told him if he didn't keep them on we were going in the house. He ripped them off as he stared at me. I picked him up (while he was kicking and screaming) and brought him in the house. Repeating that I knew he was upset, but we need mitt's on outside in the winter blah blah blah.
He proceeded to throw himself on the floor and kick/scream for a good 20 minutes before finally calming down. Why did he calm down you may wonder? He saw me eating chips.....
Today at the doctor, she gave me some samples of children's advil - he was playing with the bottles while we were chatting, and then it was time to go. I took the bottles away and put them in my purse - cue epic tantrum - again.
Out in the waiting room he finally calms down because he likes to play with the boot mats. Well, when it was time to go that caused another huge tantrum - which was relieved when the nurse came and let him choose a sticker.......
So if you were at the same medical center as I this morning, a child wasn't being tortured - they just were not getting their own way.
I can't tell you how many times stickers have saved the day, lol. Not sure if you got your Perplexus yet but here's a warning, tantrums are a definite possibility for not only kids but adults too, hahaha!
ReplyDeleteI got it yesteray, and I LOVE it! frustrating for sure, but so much fun. By starting on #3, I did finish it 2x. (after many, many drops)
DeleteArg - toddler tantrums are so difficult to handle sometimes! We are now experiencing the terrible 3's LOL.

3's were tough with ODS, but had nothing on the first few months of 4. He seems to be over that hump now though....good luck!
DeleteKiddos can be so stressful!! Glad to know I'm not alone!

it's the type of thing that you hate to see other parents dealing with - but then it kinda makes you feel better that it isn't just your kid.
DeleteAwww lol poor mommy!! I guess I am lucky I will never experience those tantrums as I don't have any kiddos. I do remember being a menace to my mother though. Poor mom.
ReplyDeleteS.A.S.S ing you :)
thanks for stopping by - I also remember giving my mom a run for her money every now and then
DeleteOMG!! Those are so awful as a parent. When I see that I just want to go over and hug the mom and tell her no worries, we've all been there, you are doing fine :) SASS
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree.....
DeleteOh, so that was you at the med center on Thursday morning! (kidding! :D) I don't have any kids (yet), but I always feel bad for the 'rents when I see a child going into a full on snit at a store, heh.

I had no clue how easy going my first kid was until we had babe #2. She throws the classic toddler tantrums, and has been working hard on perfecting them since before she was a year old. Sigh. I think most parents get it. But man it sucks when they do it in public.

My sympathies. I'm not a parent, but I'm a sometimes babysitter, and I find stickers (and some outright bribery) to be a lifesaver when it comes to toddler tantrums.
ReplyDeleteA public tantrum is never easy, but I think anyone who has had or babysat a kid in the past has at least some sympathy for you!

We are just entering into this world as DS is 19 months. So far we have been lucky that talking him through it, and giving him warning has kept the screaming to a minimum.
