adventures in cake making/decorating

I have decided to make Julien a fire truck for his 2nd birthday cake. However, I am having no luck creating a red frosting. Everthing I try is ending up gross looking.....ahhhh

I have decided to resort to buying premade tinted frosting from artistic (well, hopefully - the website says they sell it....I will check tomorrow)

This is what I am aiming for

Julien is growing up! I am so thrilled, but also sad. He's soon not going to be my little boy. He has a potty now, and while he isn't quite ready to be potty trained, he does love to sit on it and read his books.

He can walk up the stairs without holding on to the railing (which, in my opinion, is a BIG step). He is talking more everyday, he says backpack, down and boo quite clearly. And he is just too cute.....

a bit of everything

Julien had a wonderful weekend and lots of quality time with Daddy! Since J has been on evenings/nights, Jules doesn't get to spend much time with him, and he sure misses it. He clings to J when he does see him now - it's quite sweet, but sad that he only sees him for a few hours a week.....

I am very excited, J's fathers day gift came in last week, and I am so happy with how it turned out. I hope he likes it as much as I do!

Julien has been with his grandma and "nana" this week (out of nowhere, he called my mom Nana a few times this week......I guess Gramz is gone for now) as I have been working. He loves to spend time with them both, so I am very glad for that. I couldn't imagine having to leave him with a care provider when I am at work....

cottage day

Just a few pictures to share from our day at Aunt Bev's cottage. Julien was an angel, which was quite surprising as he only napped for 30 minutes on the way up; but he was very well behaved. He had lots of fun on the beach, and his most favorite activity was throwing pinecones into the lake!

YAY for Jules!

Jules had his first dental appointment today, and it went great. He did try to get away during the exam, and there was lots of screaming and crying, but he came through like a champ.

And, the verdict - it's not a cavity! Just some discoloration.

She is very please with the oral hygene he has, and commended me on a job well done. Made me feel great, especially since I blamed myself for what I thought was a cavity!

wish us luck

Julien has his first dental appointment tomorrow afternoon.

I'm really hoping it goes smoothly, but he has been known not to co-operate when he doesn't want to....

Wish us luck, I will report back tomorrow night

thank you babies r us

About a month ago, J noticed that one of the support straps had broken on Julien's crib. I emailed the manufacturer right away, and recieved a response telling me they didn't know what I was talking about, and that they would need a picture.

So, I take a picture and send it back ... 10 days go by and I haven't gotten a response. So, I again email the company telling them that I have not received a response, and that I am getting very frustrated because this is about my sons safety.

As of today (another 10 days) still no response. I tried calling a few times, and it told me I was being transferred to a CSR, only to get disconnected somehow.

I finally went in to babies r us this afternoon, and the clerk was so helpful. She called the company for me, spoke with someone and gave me the info of who to call, and what number.

I got home and called the woman, and we now have the ball rollling finally. Hopefully we will have a replacement by early next week

WOW

We were fortunate enough to attend the Elton John/Billy Joel concert last night at Scotiabank Place.

I cannot believe how phenomenal it was. I have always been a huge Billy Joel fan (come on, who can resist dancing to Uptown Girl and Only the Good Die Young?) and I like Elton John too....but seeing the show that they put on....absolutely amazing.

We were there with J's parents and a good friend of theirs. Our seats were in the 2nd level, at the opposite end of the stage, but it didn't matter. I was quite jealous however, of the fans in the front row who got autographs from them.

The energy in the arena was awesome.....and I am so thankful that I was able to go....it's definitly at the top of my list for the concerts I have seen.

We bought Julien a teddy bear wearing a t-shirt with the face2face tour on it....but for the price, it is a teddy bear that will be sitting high on a shelf...
