5 Ways To Keep Kids Entertained On Sick Days

When my kids are really ill, they lie on the couch and sleep while watching movies or shows - no entertaining needed.  Sometimes they are home for other reasons though (fever with no symptoms, better after a stomach bug but not able to return to school until 24 hours have passed etc) and on those occasions I need ways to keep them busy.

Mr. J was home from school one day last week. He wasn't sick - he hit his head after falling off a large pile of snow right before the bus was to come. I wanted to keep an eye on him to make sure he didn't have a concussion (he didn't - he was just fine) We spent the first part of the day doing errands, and then came home and he wanted to do something with me.

The following 5 ideas are ways that we spend time when they are home "sick"
  1. Play a board game or card game
  2. Build a train track or race car track
  3. Cuddle up and read a book
  4. Colour or draw pictures
  5. Snuggle up on the couch and watch a movie
How do your kids spend sick days?

  1. We either watch tv or read a book together. But when I need to get some work done, I let the kids use the Ipad.

  3. We used to play Monopoly a lot when my brother was home on leave. Took forever but we did have a lot of fun. It's tough when kids aren't feeling well, they often don't have the energy to do anything at all.
