your perfect family

Growing up, all I ever wanted was to be a mom. When I was really little, I told my mom that I was going to have 10 kids and live at home forever....no husband for me.

When I got a little older, I realized it didn't work that way and dropped my number to 6. Even though, over the years I sometimes wanted a career, it wasn't really my main focus. The biggest thing for me was to be a mom. No matter how many kids I have, I don't think I would ever be done.

Hubby and I were way off on our ideas - he only wanted 1. It took a long time, and just when I had come to terms with having no more children, he changed his mind and we added Kyle to our family.  At the time, I thought I would be content with 2 (not meaning I wouldn't have more, but just that I wouldn't feel the NEED for more) but I was wrong. As Kyle gets closer to hitting 2 years old (August 28...not long now) it makes me realize how much he is growing up.  It makes me sad knowing he isn't a baby anymore. As I have been giving things away, and realizing this is the end, its starting to hit me. Even though we are done, I don't feel as the our family is complete.

I am starting to get baby fever again, but I know that it's not going to happen. That being said, even if we had a 3rd, I am pretty sure I would want a 4th, and a 5th....

What about you? Did you always know exactly how many kids you wanted to have? Was your spouse/partner on board with that number?

  1. I always wanted 5 children. Hubs wanted 4. We both have 2 younger siblings (I have two younger brothers and he has two younger sisters). With the birth of Little One, I pretty much felt one was enough. She came really early (born at 28 weeks) and it was the scariest time of my life. In fact, so scary and so stressful, that I didn't want to go through it ever again. Hubs is still set on having another child though. We love Little One so much, and I won't lie...with all my preg friends and family members, I do get baby fever sometimes. I am now thinking that maybe it would be nice for Little One to have a sibling. We'll see :)

  2. I wanted 2 before I had children, my husband wanted 4. Once I had our girls I fell in love with them, the joys/trials of raising them and as time has gone on I feel like I could have 53 kids.

However, my body doesn't. Pregnancy was horrible for me and it was suggested for my own health I don't attempt to carry another baby. So at this point we will stick with two. Then one day if God ever sees fit we might just decide to adopt those 1 or 2 more!

  3. I always knew I wanted children, and I always knew that I wanted two. I loved the idea of focusing on two and having one to each parent when we're out places like the zoo, parks, etc. We have two, one of each, and it's been perfect for us. The problem for me, is that I know if we had 3...then I'd want an even number, so then we'd have to have FOUR and that's too many for me LOL.

  4. This is a great post! We have 4 back to back! It's a lot of work, stressful at moments. But we are pulled thin, there is only daddy and mommy and 4 small kiddies who want and need our attention EVERY moment! We try our hardest and can only give as much attention as we can. We have a 5th sitting on our minds, but we keep coming back to HOW THIN we are pulled already!

Best of luck I know you will do what's right for your family!

  5. I never thought I would have 3 kids- we weren't the best at "family planning" I must admit. When we had our 3rd we KNEW we were done. There was not a doubt in either of our minds and she is 5 now (the boys are 8 & 10) and we are sure that was the right decision. But I didn't grow up wanting tons of kids either :)

  6. I have three children and I don't think I had any kind of plan at all. I think I thought I would just be lucky and blessed with what we got.
