It's Important To Research Before Purchasing A Vehicle

This is a sponsored post, Tales of Mommyhood has received

When I purchased my first vehicle, it was a spur of the moment decision (which I don’t recommend). I had no idea about anything when it came to buying a car. I knew approximately what I could afford, so we looked around the lot, found a used car with low kilometers and asked if we could take it for a test drive.

I walked out that afternoon having signed the papers and the next day was a car owner. There wasn’t anything wrong with the vehicle (other than the colour, it was sea-foam green) but I could have made a much better choice.

After that experience, I knew that I was going to take my time when purchasing any vehicles in the future. It's not always easy when making a decision on a new vehicle. There are so many factor to consider, that it can be a daunting task.  Different car manufacturers have many makes and models, and they all have different features. It’s great to be able to consult Cars.com, a site where you are provided with all the information you need to make a decision about a vehicle that will suit your needs.
You need to take into account where you will be driving, what the climate is like, whether you will be transporting other people often, and if you will need room for things like sporting equipment or large musical instruments.

I have always enjoyed checking out cars on the lot - when I am NOT in the market to buy, but car buying can definitely be a stressful event – it’s not always fun. Do you have any car shopping horror stories?

Happy First Day of Fall!

Today is the first official day of fall, but with the weather we are having I am going to pretend it is still summer. We have been so lucky to have temperatures in the high 20's for the last few weeks.  I have been able to spend time at the outdoor pool (both on my own and with the kids).

I publish a summer bucket list every year, but don't normally do one for fall.  With school back in session, we don't have the same amount of free time, but I thought this year I would put some things down that we normally do - and I hope to this year as well.

  1. Apple Picking - we normally go to Mountain Orchards, but I don't think we will make it out there this year. I hope to take them to one of the ones a little closer.
  2. Baking Apple Crisp - I make apple crisps and pies every fall, and then freeze them to have over winter.
  3. Saunders Farm - we go in the summer for outdoor fun, but in the fall they make it spooky. Hoping to get there at least once before Halloween.
  4. Pumpkin picking and carving - we don't go to a patch to pick our pumpkins, but the place we go to has a huge selection already picked for families to choose from.
  5. Walk through the forest - I love walking in a forest with the changing leaves. There is something about the crisp air (not right now though) and the sound of leaves crunching as you walk through them.
What types of activities do you make sure to do with your family in the fall?

Don't Humidify, Rumidify! Enter to Win a Rumidifer RD10!

As much as we all hope the gorgeous weather will stay, it's not going to be long before winter sets in and our houses become dry.  Rumidifier wants to help you out this winter,  by providing ONE Rumidifier RD10 unit to one of my lucky readers.  This is open to both US and Canadian residents.

Don’t humidify, Rumidify!

They say necessity is the mother of all inventions and our story wasn’t any different. When our founder's children were young, they fell ill over the winter with chest congestion, colds and flu. The doctor recommended that they purchase a room humidifier for the home to help the situation so that they could breathe comfortably again. When he was looking for humidifiers, all he could find were ones that plugged into electricity. They used up energy and added to the hydro bill, they were noisy, had high maintenance and he felt they were unsafe as there was a chance that they could catch fire.

He then invented the Rumidifier to use in his home, saw how efficient it was in curing his kids and ended up marketing it for sale. The Rumidifier is cordless and compact, and simple to use - it sits on your floor vent and uses the heat coming from your furnace to add humidity to the room. Once you have placed the unit over the vent and added water, the Rumidifier will start working when your furnace is on. The water reservoir needs to be filled every few days, and the unit should be cleaned every few months. Rumidifiers are easy to clean, the units come apart and the base can be placed on the top rack of your dishwasher or scrubbed by hand if you prefer - no worry about mold in hard to clean areas. There are no extra hydro fees and no chance of it catching fire.

The Rumidifier is a truly eco-friendly humidifier that fits over any existing heating vent to provide ongoing humidification whenever the heat goes on. This means it takes zero electricity because you don’t need to plug it in! It uses the warm air flow from your central furnace, so there is no extra energy consumption at all. There’s no extra noise and you never have to turn it on and off. And the biggest bonus for me – nothing that needs to be constantly cleaned! The Rumidifier uses an eco-friendly filter made from organic wood pulp, which should be changed at the end of every season.

Rumidifiers are eco-friendly - they won’t break down and end up in the landfill, they don’t require electricity to run (which makes them incredibly safe to use), the unit cost is $39.95 so they are very affordable. Regular humidifiers cost approximately $25.00 a year in electricity charges, making the savings of using a Rumidifer basically pay for the unit itself.

If every household in Canada had deployed just 1 Rumidifier, hydro companies would save 335 million kwh of electricity, and customers will conserve $2 billion in hydro costs each year. That is a giant leap for a small gadget like Rumidifier.

Thanks to over 50,000 happy customers, Rumidifier has grown into a premier home comfort brand in North America and has become a familiar household name, all in just four years. Many are repeat customers who are buying extra units for their homes and for their friends and families. There are also other Rumidifiers available for the wall, the car, personal Rumidifier for the office, and central and baseboard Rumidifiers are in the making.

Rumidifiers now can be purchased all across Canada and the United States at Home Depot, Home Hardware, Lowes, Terra 20 and Canadian Tire.

Having a Rumidifier in your house can help alleviate symptoms of allergies, asthma, and arthritis, as well as reducing dry eyes, sore throats and stuffy noses. They help with tropical plants, hardwood floors and also pets.

Rumidifiers are safe, affordable and eco-friendly. Humidify without electricity and start saving today.

15 Perfect Fall Instant Pot Recipes

As summer turns to fall and the weather starts getting cooler, the meals I make for my family change as well. With hot weather, I prefer a lighter meal - often having salads with a protein to make it complete.  During the fall and winter, I like having a heavier meal - like hearty soups and stews.

This round up is perfect for those cool fall nights: keeps you warm and your belly full. The best part? The Instant Pot does most of the work for you. You don't need to be stuck in the kitchen over the stove.

Summer 2017 Re-Cap

This summer was probably one of the roughest we have had. The kids didn't have many friends to play with, and that meant more time together than they would like. This, of course, lead to a ridiculous amount of fighting.

Even with all that fighting and bickering, we managed to have a pretty decent summer.  Mr. J went away to summer camp for the first time. The kids spent a lot of time with their cousins, which I think is extremely important.  It's great that they can be friends as well as cousins. Mr. J is only 6 months younger than his cousins, so they will all end up at the same high school together - in the same grade.

Once again we purchased a swim membership, and Mr. K and I definitely got our moneys worth out of it. We averaged 3 trips a week over the summer, and I plan on using the fitness portion of the membership throughout the fall and winter.

The kids both did summer day camps that they enjoyed, we had trips to the park, a few bike rides (not as many as I would have liked), Saunders Farm, Rays Reptiles, nerf fights, water fights and some down time as well.

Mr. K spent the majority of his summer sleeping in a tent in our living room. His dad added blankets to the furniture so that he also had a fort in front of the tent.  I had hoped to try camping for the first time this year, but that didn't happen. I did, however, sleep in the tent for a few nights with him when he asked.

Over the summer I made the decision to return to work part time. I am on the hunt for a position that will work for me and our family. That was a decision that didn't come easy, but once I made up my mind, I have been quite excited about it.

I hope that you had a wonderful summer - feel free to leave a comment below with what the highlight was for you!
