A New Year and New Goals

I am not one to set New Years Resolutions. I did it when I was younger, and I never managed to keep them. This year, I have a few goals. I know there is a possibility I won't meet them, but I am hoping that I will.

I am really not very organized, and I don't think that will change. However, I do plan on making some small changes, and hope that will help to keep the house running a little smoother.

Goal 1: Stay on top of the laundry. I used to put a load of laundry in the washer, and then transfer it to the dryer (or sometimes I would have to re-wash it because it would end up forgotten about). Once the dryer was finished, I would empty it onto the laundry room floor.  There it would stay. With more loads piled on top. I would hunt through to find what I was looking for.  Once every couple of months I would carry the mountain of laundry upstairs and sort through it while binge watching a series. Then it would get put away, and I would commit to staying on top of it....and then I wouldn't.

Now, I REALLY want to stay on top of it. It really is a great feeling to get it done from start to finish and have clothes put away.  I can actually SEE the floor of my laundry area now.

Goal 2: Stay on top of the clutter. This is a super hard one for me. My brain doesn't see clutter the way most people do. I see it, but it really doesn't register with me...until it's too late. Then I end up being so overwhelmed that it just gets worse and worse.  On Christmas night we realized that there was a leak somewhere in the main bathroom, and we had water in the basement. That had us moving things around, and we spent boxing day clearing out the basement. We got 2 big garbage bags, 9 board games that we no longer play, a box of kids clothes (and I went through their closets the next day and got 2 more boxes) and more items that had been down there, never used. IT felt SO good to get rid of stuff.

Goal 3: Write more.  2017 was kind of slow for me with the blog. With everything going on with MR. J at the beginning of the year, and then Mr. K over the summer and fall, I really didn't do as much as I was hoping.  Did you know that I have always wanted to write a children's book? Its something I have wanted to do since I was a little girl. I think I might spend some time focusing on that this year. I hope to be more active with the blog as well, but I would really like to come up with something for a book.  Now that I have written it down, and it will be published soon, I am hoping that I will actually do something on that end.

Goal 4: Be more mindful of spending. I am not one for overly frivolous purchases, but I want to be more aware of how money is being spent. I joined a group that is doing a "buy nothing" type of year. We all have our own goals, and our own ideas of what that means. For me, personally, I want to spend less and waste less. I know that a lot of the food I purchase ends up wasted - and I want to be more aware of what is coming into the house. Right now, we have a freezer FULL of food. I want to try and go through what is in there before buying more. I will restock milk, fruits and veggies - but in terms of meat and fish, we really don't need to buy anything over the next few weeks.  I want to eat out less (we don't order in a ton, or go to restaurants often, but there are lots of Tim Horton stops for bagels - when we really don't need to.)  By bringing less into the house, it is less chance for clutter and piles of "stuff".

Do you set New Year Resolutions? Goals. I would love to hear what you are hoping to do differently this year.
