My Favourite Time Of Day

My favourite time of day isn't when the kids head off to school, or when they are fast asleep in dream land.  These days I find myself waiting for the kids to go to bed.  Not because they are frustrating me and I want time to myself; not because of the never ending fighting between them.  I long for bedtime for that special connection that happens.

Alvin And The Chipmunks: Roadchip

Staying home for the March Break? Why not join Alvin And The Chipmunks for their Roadchip? Available for home viewing on March 15th, it is perfect timing for our March Break!
"Hit the road with your favorite fur balls in the funniest Alvin and the Chipmunks ever! Alvin, Simon and Theodore race to Miami on a wild road trip, but their jaunt soon takes a nutty detour, leading to hilarious hijinks and music-packed adventures across the country. The Ultimate Playlist is featured on both Blu-ray™ and DVD so you can MUNK OUT to all the top hits from all the Alvin & The Chipmunks movies!"
The kids had wanted to see this while it was in theaters, but we never made it.  They were super excited when it was delivered to our house on Tuesday and couldn't wait to watch it.  They were not disappointed.  Filled with all the quirky antics of the chipmunks you come to expect, they really enjoyed it.

March Break 2016 Has Arrived!

If you live in Ontario, then your kids are likely on March Break this week.  It's a busy time of year, and many people take trips South to soak up some sun.  We, are not one of those families and will be at home this week.

We will likely spend some time doing crafts, baking and visiting with their cousins.  We will also be going to a movie and they will each have a sleepover at their grandparents house.

If you are in the Ottawa area and looking for ways to keep busy with the kids - check out the list below.

  1. Visit one of the local Sugar Bushes
  2. Check out your local mall - they often have free activities
  3. Your local library will likely have one or two free activities each day
  4. Movie Theater - the Landmark Cinemas has $3 March Break movies on (this deal applies to certain films only)
  5. With the warm weather that is forecast, a walk on a local nature trail may be fun
  6. Baking together (pretzels, cake, cookies)
  7. Play dates with friends (if any are around)
  8. Video Games
  9. Movies
  10. Board Games or Fort Building
I would love to know what your March Break plans are (and if they include a sunny destination, I can live vicariously through you)

Multi-Generational Travel Destinations

Creating memories while traveling is something that I wish everyone had the chance to do.  We have traveled with the kids and hubby's parents twice - both times to DisneyWorld.  There are so many other places I would love to visit, and for the kids to visit.

Paula at Thrifty Mommas Tips has put together a list of five places that are great for traveling with different generations!

"Multi-generational travel can be wonderful. Enjoying life long memories with everyone in the family from grandparents down to grandchildren is something that not every family gets to do. Although multi-generational travel can be fun, it’s sometimes difficult to find destinations that appeal to everyone. That’s why I’ve put together 5 great multi-generational travel destinations in the southern U.S."

Mr. J Bakes Cookies

My kids have always helped me in the kitchen with baking. Whether it was pretzels, cakes, cookies or cupcakes - they always wanted to be with me and were happy to get dirty in the process.

Last week, Mr. J asked me if we could make cookies on the weekend.  He wanted to do everything, and just have me there to supervise or help him if he had trouble.  I said SURE (not one to turn down time with the kids when they ask for it, as it is getting less and less as they get older).  Yesterday his brother was at a birthday party, so it was the perfect time to spend some 1 on 1 time together.

The Ride App Available In Canada

How would you like to have access to transportation information at your fingertips?  The Ride app allows you to access information on all transit available in your area:  buses, taxis, carshare and more. The Ride was developed in Canada, for Canadians.  The same people behind the #TAXI service (which was created over 10 years ago) created The Ride.

The Ride gives you access to ALL transit options in your area, wherever you happen to be in Canada.

You can use The Ride to get up to date information on the transit services in your area, plan your route or e-hail a ride.  With The Ride app, you can pre-book a taxi for later in the evening, connect with the driver or with dispatch. You can track your cab and will be notified when it arrives. You even have a chance to rate the driver after.

Interested in downloading The Ride to your mobile phone? You can get The Ride here. Use the code RideWithAshley - it will get you 1 free credit (1 free e-hail). The first 30 days after downloading the app, convenience fees ($2 to e-hail) are waived.  The credit will be stored in your account and you can use it after the first month.

I dislike wasting time in traffic, and if I can plan out my routes knowing the quickest way to get somewhere, that will make my life so much easier.

Toboggan Run 2016 Is Here!

For the last 5 years, hubby has built a toboggan run in our front yard for the kids to play on.  We didn't have enough snow before Christmas to get it started, and then when we did get some snow, it rained soon after and there wasn't enough for him to build one.
After our recent record breaking snow fall, it was the perfect time. He worked on it one morning while the kids were at school, and surprised them when they got home.

Mr. K spent TWO hours playing on it before dinner Friday afternoon and Mr. J spent a lot of time on it throughout the weekend as well.

Now that we have another large snowfall happening, we will get that much more use from it!
