March Break Staycation At The Brookstreet Hotel

We kicked off March Break with a staycation at the Brookstreet Hotel!  We wanted to do something fun with the kids, but going away wasn't an option - the kids are off school this week, but hubby still has to work.  We decided that a short staycation was our best option.

We were booked in for the B Family Package.  When we arrived on Saturday afternoon, we checked in at the desk in the lobby.
the boys waiting while we checked in
They had a welcome bag for each of the kids (included was a colouring book, crayons, a stainless steel water bottle that can be filled up free of charge in either Perspectives Restaurant or Options Jazz Lounge, and a small drawstring bag with 4 tokens for the Zone 525 game room).
We made our way up to our suite and settled in, then headed back down to the main floor to check out the family activities and Zone 525.

The kids were thrilled with that they received a gift!
Mr. K enjoyed colouring at the activity table, there was also the option to make a necklace or bracelet, and earlier in the day there was cookie decorating (we missed it - the cookies were gone by the time we arrived).

When he was finished colouring we spent some time in the games room playing games.  Most of the arcade games require tokens however there are 2 video game systems that are free of charge, as well as a screen and theater style seating for watching movies.

there is a token machine in the Zone 525 game room, or you
can purchase tokens at guest services
After 30 minutes or so, we went to have a bite to eat at Perspectives (one of 3 food options at the hotel), then made our way back to Zone 525.  We headed up to our room and a few minutes later a delivery of milk and cookies came for the boys (not a bedtime snack we would let them have at home, but a yummy treat for our night away!)

they were so thrilled to have cookies at bed!
When they were finished with the milk and cookies, the 4 of us climbed into the luxurious king size bed and watched Jurassic Park.  The boys were both asleep by 9pm (half way through the movie) and I wasn't long after....hubby stayed up later watching movies.

Mr. K was up just before 6, so I settled him with the colouring book and crayons in the living room area and went back to bed for half an hour.

We all headed down to the pool around 730, and stayed playing and swimming until 9am.

The kids pool is pretty neat - it's very shallow (like a wading pool) and has a small mountain type slide and a teeter totter.

they enjoyed playing for a bit before heading into the regular pool
I LOVE swimming with my boys! A favourite activity of mine
We had a lot of fun in the pool, we didn't think to bring our puddle jumpers, but there were some noodles on the pool deck that the boys used while we were in the water. Neither is able to "swim" and they were not able to touch the bottom with their heads above water.

We headed back to our room to change, and then went and grabbed breakfast at the Cafe.  Spent some more time in Zone 525 and then we checked out.
They made popcorn last night and showed The Cat In The Hat
After we checked out we saw some of the Philadelphia Flyers players; they were signing some jerseys for kids that were waiting in the lobby, then they boarded their bus and headed off to practice.

I was surprised at how many families we saw while we were there.  I have always thought of it as more of an upscale hotel, and not so much a family destination.  I was pleasantly surprised to discover that was a misconception!  It was really nice to just "be" with the kids.  No laundry, no video games, no dinner to make or anything to distract us from family time. Perfect for a "staycation" or as a "vacation" as well.

It was definitely a great way to start off March Break 2015, and I am sure we will go back....maybe hubby and I will sneak away for a night alone and spend some couple time together. It would be nice to visit Options Jazz Lounge.

What are your March Break plans?  If you live in the area, consider booking your own "staycation" for your family!

Thank you to the Brookstreet Hotel for putting us up for the night! It was a great "treat"; as always, opinions are honest and belong to Tales of Mommyhood and your opinion/experience may vary.

    1. Thanks Lynda! I have stayed at hotels (without kids) that had nothing to do.... I wouldn't want to have kids with me at a place like that...this was great though!

    1. When hubby and I were dating, we used to do them a few times a year - it was always a lot of fun! Not always feasible to get away either due to time constraints or lack of funds, but a night away can be refreshing too!

  8. I adore how family friendly this is. They have really gone the extra mile with the arcade, although I think I'll be dragging my husband out of there more than my son haha.

    1. I would be happy with it as an adult too! We don't go to public pools, so the idea of swimming in the winter was really appealing to the kids!

  10. This sounds like a great idea for a family that can't get away, but wants to get away for a while. I loved the cookies and milk treat the hotel sent up for your children. That was such a nice added touch. The king size bed looked soooooooooooo comfy! I'm glad you got to enjoy each other's company while watching movies! I'm happy your family had such a great time while at the Brookstreet Hotel!

  19. This is only five minutes down the street from my house, I wish I had seen this post earlier. I wanted to do a staycation, but didn't realize they had a kids pool and all the extras that came in your package. The Travelodge on Carling was the only one that I thought had a pool geared towards kids, and with all the shootings/hookers/drugs going on there, and all the rotten reviews they have, we just stayed home. going to have to do this next year!

  20. What a great idea! We live near a city that many people travel long distances to visit. A few days downtown and playing tourist sound like a super idea :)
