How To Make Snow Days Fun For Everyone

Living in Ontario, it is inevitable that we will have 1 or 2 snow days per year.  In our city, the schools remain open, but the buses are cancelled.  Personally, I figure that if they are keeping the buses off the road, then I might as well help keep the traffic down and not drive the kids to school.  Plus, it's fun for the kids to have a day off (and I like the odd extra day with them too!)

Here are some tips and activities to keep everyone happy and having fun on snow days!

  • get out of the house if you can - it starts the day with fun and activity!
    • shovel the drive way
    •  build a snowman
    • have a snowball fight
    •  just play in the snow!
  • bake some cookies
  • once the cookies are done and ready to eat, enjoy them while watching your favourite family movie (if it is Christmas time, then these are great choices)
  • get active again
    • get your body moving again - outside is great if you can, maybe head to a toboggan hill for some sledding fun! Or, if you have a skating rink near by that is a great choice too.  If the weather doesn't allow for outside fun - have a dance party or do some yoga
  • wind down time
These activities should get you through most of the day.  We really like to spend as much time as we can outdoors.  What are your favourite activities when the kids are home?

  1. I love this idea. I have teens so I think I'm going to write a post for them and save it for a snow day. Thanks.

  2. In Texas we do not get much snow but on some years we will get an icy mush mixture. My kids loved making ice cream and sliding down the street in laundry hampers!
