when they pick things up from friends

I knew that once Julien started school, it was inevitable that he would pick up sayings/behaviours from his classmates.

I wasn't quite prepared for all the words he would come home with (LOTS of potty talk, like RIDICULOUS amounts - everything is "poopy pants" or "poopy face" or "poopy ideas") and it is driving me crazy.  Besides telling him that we don't talk like that (which the response is "so-and-so does) or that it is inappropriate, we only use potty words for the bathroom etc etc....what can I do?

Do your kids have friends that they pick up negative things from? How do you deal with it?

  1. I was JUST talking about this yesterday with a friend of mine! Little One is going to JK this Fall and I'm so worried about what she'll pick up from other kids! I know potty talk is big at this age. I was upset when she came back from a friend's house and telling us, "Smell my butt!". I called her friend's mom and she said, "Yes. She learned that from my kid." Urgh. Oh, well. We can't shelter our kids, but teach them and prepare them...and tell them what's appropriate and not! *sigh*

  2. Our daughter picked this up from a little boy she plays with... in their house, it's okay to use those sorts of words (I can see the parents agreeing to that just to prevent other words) but I wasn't very happy about it. I tell them poopy is only for the bathroom and so far, for our girls, that has worked. I don't know what I'll do when they get older and start picking up worse things!

  3. Oh gosh, my son has picked up a lot of new things as well and "poop" words are definitely among them :S I just try to tell him that just because they say or do things, doesn't mean it's ok for him to do those things.

  4. My kids have come home with lots of "what does....mean?" Or "what is..?" And sometimes they just blurt stuff out lol. It is a growing process and sometimes a lesser reaction is best
